Frenular Reduction

FRENDULUM REDUCTION (FRENULOPLASTY) SURGERY

The frenulum connects the foreskin on the underside of the penis to the glans penis. It is similar to the small band of tissue tongue.

The frenulum is an important area of pleasure for a man and aids in the erection process. It has a rich plexus of nerve endings and are very sensitive and can be important in achieving an orgasm.

Frenulum Breve

For some men, the frenulum may be too tight. In many cases, it may cause a downward deflection of the head of the penis which can make penetration difficult and painful for both partners. It can also cause bleeding when the penis is erect. The degree of tightness and thickness of the frenulum is very variable.

Frenulum reduction can be accomplished with a frenuloplasty. Using a Y shaped incision, also known as a Y Plasty, the tight band can be relieved without a significant reduction in pleasurable sensation.

For men who have gone through their life suffering from pain and/or bleeding, a frenuloplasty can improve sexual performance without losing normal sensation. It is typically a 30 minute surgical procedure that can be performed under general or local anesthesia.

Premature Ejaculation

For some men, premature ejaculation is a lifelong problem. While topical or oral medications may be helpful, for some they are not effective.

If the problem is due to excessive frenular sensation, a frenulectomy may be helpful. By removing the frenulum, excessive sensitivity may be alleviated.

How is Frenulum Reduction (Frenuloplasty) Performed?

Dr. Pugach performs a frenulum reduction under general or local anesthesia. It typically takes 30 minutes or less to perform. Post-operative pain is usually minimal and most patients return to normal activities in 48 hours.

General Issues

  • Surgery is performed on an outpatient basis.
  • Absorbable sutures are always used so there is no need for painful stich removal afterwards.
  • All frenular procedures require that patients have no sexual activity for at least 4 weeks after surgery.
