“The discovery of a prostate cancer biomarker
by Dr. Doneka at the Mayo Clinic is a groundbreaking step towards
developing a more specific test to detect prostate cancer. It has
the potential to decrease the number of biopsies in men with
elevated PSA levels while increasing the overall cancer detection
rate,” comments Dr. Robert Pugach. For more information visit; Mayo

American Urological Association
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) was a prominent focus of
the 2012 annual meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA). Attendees from
across the United States and throughout the world came to learn
about a wide variety of issues that include the latest in
genetic research about urological cancers to ultrasound
workshops to new treatments for a variety of urological
conditions.
For the BPH educational program Dr. Pugach was honored to be
chosen as one of three panelists in a far ranging discussion and
presentation about the minimally invasive options available to
urologists to treat BPH. Chaired by Dr. Claus Roehrborn,
chairman and professor of the Urology Department of the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, the session
allowed each panelist to share his experience and treatment
insights with the more than 300 attendees. The panel discussion
was followed by a lively Question & Answer session.
“We had the opportunity to educate urologists about the
advantages of in office BPH treatments - CoolWave microwave and
Prostiva radiofrequency - and show them how they can enhance
patient comfort, eliminate the need for surgery and produce long
lasting results,” says Dr. Pugach. “We also taught them that in
office treatments deliver better results than daily, expensive
medications without the side effects of medications. They also
learned that in office treatments are less expensive than
surgery and medications for patients and our healthcare system.”

"New treatment for prostate cancer gives 'perfect results' for
nine in ten men: research," By Rebecca Smith, Medical Editor, 16 Apr 2012, Source: The
Telegraph
In the study published in the journal Lancet Oncology, 41 men
were treated with focal HIFU. After 12 months, none were
incontinent and one in ten suffered impotence. The
majority, 95%, were free of cancer after 12 months.
Comment from Dr.
Robert Pugach, MD
“As one of four urologists in North America certified to teach
other doctors throughout the world to perform HIFU, it is
gratifying to see the HIFU procedure evolve to this level. We
are now at the cusp of being able to treat small prostate
cancers in less than an hour and allow patients to return to
normal activities and functions within a few days.”

Important new research for couples considering assisted

suggest that, “ARTs may lead to an increased incidence of birth
defects .” Dr. Robert Pugach advises couples who are looking to
reverse a vasectomy that a
vasectomy reversal, when successful, is the LEAST
expensive option for couples as it allows multiple attempts and
