  Prostate Cancer Support Group Meeting

Call the American Cancer Society for Meeting Locations
“About one in every six California men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime.”

The American Cancer Society’s Man to Man Program provides support and information about prostate cancer and treatment options to men with prostate cancer.  Man to Man provides a safe forum for men and their partners to explore and discuss their concerns, gather information on treatment options, and gain skills to help adjust to their individual needs.   “This group provides a safe, supportive environment where prostate cancer survivors and men undergoing prostate cancer treatment can gather to discuss their feelings and experiences in a non-judgmental atmosphere,” says Dr. Pugach.

Prostate cancer can be successfully treated with early detection key to longer term survival rates. According to the American Cancer Society, for men with prostate cancer that has not spread beyond the prostate gland, the five-year survival rate climbs to 99 percent.

“Survival rates for prostate cancer have steadily improved over the past years,” says Dr. Pugach.  “New minimally invasive therapies are now available that reduce two side effects commonly associated with conventional prostate cancer treatment—impotence and incontinence,”  states Dr. Pugach.  These are likely culprits for stifling the conversation, but the message Dr. Pugach wants to send to men is not to let your uneasiness dictate your healthcare decisions. Get the facts and learn about screening tests for prostate cancer.
