Dr. Robert Pugach used to recommend seed implants (brachytherapy) to treat prostate cancer. However, Dr. Robert Pugach has found that cryoablation and HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) yield superior results and no longer treats prostate cancer with brachytherapy.  
Dr. Robert Pugach is one of the most experienced urologists in Southern California. He has done more cryoablation procedures than any other urologist in southern California.  He also is in elite group of less than 1% of the urologists in the United States certified to perform HIFU to treat prostate cancer.

What is Brachytherapy or Radioactive Seeds?

The medical concept behind brachytherapy is to place tiny radioactive seeds, about ¼” long and the diameter of a pin, throughout the prostate in order to deliver a constant dose of radiation for several months to kill prostate cancer cells.  Typically the radioactive seeds are placed using high-resolution ultrasound equipment and other special imaging techniques in an operating room. The use of ultrasound imaging during a procedure allows seed placement to be matched to the size and shape of a patient’s prostate gland.
